πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ Sweden - Gothenburg πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ

Day 1 Saturday morning, we left Manchester 1 hour, 30 minutes flight time! Flew Ryanair £45pp return

Passport control can take a while at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, so make sure you give yourself enough time to catch the bus/Uber. (Bus into Gothenburg is £8 and tickets can be purchased at the airport terminal)

We decided to get an Uber straight into Slottsskogen, an expansive free park with tame and wild Nordic animals (Uber £40 for a 30-minute journey). This is where we saw the Elk! Fabulous experience and a must if visiting Gothenburg, just make sure you have good boots/shoes on there’s lots of hills and steep paths.

For February, it was around -5, so wrapping up warm is a must!

45 minutes walk took us to Haga, the café district of Gothenburg. This is home to the most delicious cinnamon bun you have ever had - Café Husaren. We stayed at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel. You can definitely find cheaper hotels, but for us, the location was convenient, and breakfast was lovely too. Where else can you find unlimited smoked salmon on a breakfast buffet! (Hotel £145, 2 nights)

Our first Swedish dinner was at Stures Brasseri, , we all had the Swedish meatballs (£15). The Swedish hospitality really shone through here, as once they realised we were here on holiday, we were taken to the dinner in dome experience! A huge outdoor dome with candles and blankets for no extra cost!

Day 2 Morning stroll to Trädgårdsföreningen (The Garden Society), a park and horticultural garden with beautiful flowers and plants.

Back to Haga to pick up yet another cinnamon bun! We walked 45 minutes down to the harbour to see the Barken Viking hotel/ship.

They’re also the largest warship in Scandinavia, preserved in a museum (destroyer Småland) based there too.

We had decided to take a hike up to Skansen Kronan, a fortress that overlooks Gothenburg, but it was very slippy in the winter!

With an evening stroll to see the Poseidon monument. (40 minute round trip walking)

Early flight back to Manchester Monday morning.

A fabulous short break in Gothenburg is not the cheapest, but you can definitely make it work on a budget.
