A solo trip I did this weekend with some hopefully helpful tips for anyone thinking of doing an EDT (especially as a solo traveller)
I arrived 15:30 Saturday and got a Bolt (like Uber) from the airport to the Old Town, it took around 10-15 mins and cost 9 euros but there was an option of a bus for around 1 euro straight into the centre. The bus stop is number 61 and directly outside the airport behind the taxi ranks.
Most places took card (I used my Monzo card as I usually do for travelling) one Irish pub and the Cat Cafe was cash only but everywhere else was fine.
I traveled as a solo female and felt perfectly safe even walking back to the hotel at night. I stayed at Beigli Hotel which is a prime spot and all the main sights within a short walking distance, surrounded by bars, cafes, restaurants. £65 for the night including breakfast and the hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating.
I’d highly recommend a free walking tour. If you download the Guru Walk app you can search and book. It’s free but they say if you like the tour to make a donation (most people donated 10 euros) I even met two lovely ladies from Bolton who are EDT group members!
Language barrier wasn’t an issue as everyone spoke enough English for basic understanding. Locals I found to be friendly and welcoming.
There are lots of sights to see including Michael’s gate, the Castle, Bratislava City Musuem, St Martins Cathedral and lots of quirky statues dotted around the town. Local food was amazing and the Cat Cafe (MacKafe) was short walk from the old town and a lovely end to the trip to see the rescue cats with very reasonably priced drinks and snacks.
