Just about to get on plane from Oslo Torp back to Manchester after our 3rd EDT this year so far!! So here’s what our itinerary was this time, and yep another one of my long descriptions!!
- Ryanair flight from Manchester Sat at 5.45am and all on time, landing at Oslo Torp at 8.35. Had booked and paid in advance for the small 3-4 min bus transfer to the train station. Turns out we hadn’t needed to book or pay as it’s a free bus!! 🤦♂️
- Had pre-booked a return R11 train to Oslo Central station which was around £60 each with reserved seats. Train was spotless and was on time at every station on the route to Oslo, which had great scenery all along the way.
- Came out of Oslo Central station and walked straight across the street to the water front to see the Opera House and go on the roof top. However, due to the amount of ice the access to the roof top was closed off.
- So we carried on walking round past The Munch museum to “The Mother” statue.
- Walked back round the water front to go to one of the floating saunas that we had booked in advance. Really recommend one of these as great fun and experience, although freeeeeeeeezing in the water!! 🥶
- After sauna, we walked back to the Munch Museum as we wanted to view The Scream. Turns out that there’s lots of versions of The Scream that exist with 3 being on display at this museum, and only one gets revealed every 30 minutes.
- Went to Radisson Blue Scandinavia hotel to check in, throw ruck sacks in and go up to roof top bar for a cocktail!!
- Walked from hotel to Oslo Street Food for our evening meal and it was a cool and busy place!!
- Walked off our meal by walking to the Parliament Building and open air ice rink.
- We’d heard at the sauna about a new “drinks court” with 8 bars under one roof so we thought we’d give that a try. It’s called Posthallen Drinkhub and was also quite a cool place.
- From there we just walked back to hotel around 10pm.
- This morning we had breakfast (excellent selection!!) and used hotel pool and sauna before heading off to the Royal Palace and walk down Karl Johans Gate past the National theatre and Oslo University.
- Went in Paradox Museum for an hour or so.
- For last couple of hours we walked down to, and around, the Aker Brygge area where there’s lots of restaurants along the water front and statues/sculptures dotted around the place.
- Walked back along the water front and popped in quirky place called Salt (bar, sauna, cafe, BBQ…..) on our way back to Oslo Central, past a second outdoor free ice rink.
- Had a snack and drink in the train station before our train arrived bang on time again, then off to the airport via that (free!!) transfer bus.
- We’ve had an hour delay here due to all the fog delaying flights in and out of Manchester this morning, so it’s given me time to rattle on writing all this down!!!
Sooooooooo that was our EDT to Oslo this weekend, which we’d thoroughly recommend, and we’re looking forward to our next EDT next weekend, so no doubt I’ll be posting another long itinerary again!! 😏
