This was an important trip for us. The reason we flew to Katowice was to visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau tour. This tour which lasted around 4 hours definitely sank into my heart and the surreal experience you get when you realise where you are was just amazing. I just about managed to hold it together. I highly recommend you check for free tickets online which they have only 25 per day after 15:00 or you can buy it on the day in English where available. We went on a Saturday and it was not too busy. The ticket is around £20.
Parking is available on site as we drove which cost 20 PLN (£4).
Car hire from Katowice airport was only £30 for the day from Enterprise. Shuttle coaches are available as far as I know but most people generally go from Krakow when visiting this important monument. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as the majority of this tour is outside. It is much more beneficial to visit with a tour guide to explain everything.

What else did we do in Katowice?
* Visited the Silesian Museum. This is a collection of different museums which mainly focuses on art modern and old. We highly recommend visiting here and allowing 2-3 hours for the visit
* We tried some local delicacies such as Pierogi in an authentic Polish restaurant.

Overall I would return To Katowice and the tour of Auschwitz is a must do for any EDTer! — with Sinead Mcintosh in Auschwitz-Birkenau.
